Thomas Fassler currently works on the DÉCRIPT programme. He served as a research assistant and then as a research engineer for the Gecko project (Inalco). The project aims to develop tools for exploring cognitive warfare within the context of fictional crises, in order to prepare civilian and military decision-makers and operational personnel involved in national security operations, both in mainland France and in the overseas territories, for potential risks.
T. Fassler holds a BA in Japanese Studies from INALCO and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the French Institute of Geopolitics (University of Paris 8). His Master’s thesis focused on Japan’s security architecture, in collaboration with Australia. His research topics for his Master’s degree focus on the analysis and mapping of Okinawan independence narratives mobilised by nationalist actors and taken up by China.
T. Fassler is also co-author of the article ‘Cognitive warfare from a Japanese perspective: a recent and context-specific concept and approach’ (Ingénierie cognitique 7 (1), pp. 23–31): https://doi.org/10.21494/ISTE.OP.2024.1085.
