Europe Press Freedom Report - 2024: Confronting Political Pressure, Disinformation, and the Erosion of Media Independence
The Platform for the Safety of Journalists is the result of a collaboration between the Council of Europe and a network of the most important organizations defending press freedom. It celebrated its 10th anniversary in April 2025.

The threats include digital surveillance, transnational repression, media appropriation by certain governments, and disinformation, including AI-generated content and state propaganda.
The report recommends strengthening the legal protection of journalists, combating disinformation, and ensuring press freedom through political reforms and transparency measures.
