From 7 to 13 October, the city of Bayeux in Normandy hosts the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy War Correspondents Award. An exceptionnal event, dedicated to a singular profession: war reporter.
The Bayeux Award: an event dedicated to war correspondents
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, the city of Bayeux which was the first liberated city of France, launched on 23 April 1994 the Bayeux Award for War Correspondents in association with the Department of Calvados and the Normandy Region.
This initiative aims to pay tribute to journalists who practice their profession in dangerous conditions to allow us to access free information. It consists of awarding prestigious prizes to journalists from around the world and concerns the four categories of media: print, radio, television and photography.
Since 2007, the city of Bayeux, in collaboration with Reporters Without Borders, also hosts a Memorial. Unique space in Europe and entirely dedicated to the reporters killed in the exercise of their functions since 1944, this concrete organization prolongs throughout the year, beyond the Prix Bayeux, the commitment of the City to defend the freedom of the press and democracy.
