Yoal Gatkuoth

Yoal is a peace and human rights activist and a founding director of the Pan-African Peacemakers Alliance (PAPA Africa), an action-oriented, youth-led peacebuilding and advocacy movement that harnesses the power of young people to shape a more peaceful, just, and inclusive future for South Sudan and beyond. He also serves as an expert in the African Union Reference Group on Transitional Justice and is the chairperson of the South Sudan Young Peacebuilders Forum.

Yoal holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Wolkite University, Ethiopia, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Rights from the University of Juba, South Sudan. He is currently pursuing a degree in Law at Episcopal University, South Sudan. He is an alumnus of the Young African Leaders Initiative Regional Leadership Center (YALI RLC) and the Mandela Washington Fellowship in 2022 at Kansas State University, USA. He has received multiple awards, including Youth Human Rights Defender of the Year 2023 by the South Sudan Human Rights Defenders Network, Top 30 Afro-Arab Youth Champions 30 Under 30 for 2020 by the Guardians of Afro-Arab Leadership and Mastermind Afrisythesis, the Focus Africa Award in 2021, as well as the Innovative Educator and Changemaker Award from the International Innovative Future Education Summit and Awards.
