There are 10 "Convergence Institutes" in France, created in 2016 and 2017 by the 2nd Future Investment Programme on the recommendation of an international jury. Their objective? To bring together previously scattered research efforts by mobilising more than 700 researchers (see directory here) from several institutions around a key issue in order to combine disciplines and build an original training programme. The Institut Convergences Migrations (IC Migrations) is the only institute of its kind that combines social sciences, humanities and health sciences.

Structured into five thematic departments and a training department, IC Migrations organises joint research activities (seminars, scientific conferences, publications, etc.), funds emerging research projects and supports young researchers. Since 2020, it has offered an innovative master's degree programme combining courses in the humanities, social sciences and life sciences.

A major objective of IC Migrations is to promote dialogue between science and society through two types of action: critical analysis of current events through the online magazine De facto and a diverse partnership with local stakeholders (elected officials, associations, teachers, medical and social workers).
