Faced with global upheaval: what hope is there for peace?
Online
Dialogue
Webinar in partnership with The Conversation France, Tuesday 10 March from 6pm to 7.15pm.

As crises unfold and conflicts persist, the very idea of peace seems to be receding. As a prelude to the 8th edition of the Normandy World Peace Forum, which will focus on the theme of "Hopes for Peace", the discussion will focus more specifically on the mobilisation of Generation Z in many countries around the world, the return of forceful diplomacy with the Trump administration's multiple initiatives, and the situation in Syria, just over a year after the fall of Bashar Al-Assad's regime.

While these three dynamics are sources of hope, they also raise doubts about their ability to serve as levers for building lasting peace. Through the analysis of these three concrete examples, this webinar will examine how it is possible today, without denying the realities of the emerging geopolitical context, to avoid resignation and continue to believe in peace.

Speakers :

  • Christine Lutringer, Executive Director and Senior Researcher at the Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy (AHCD) at the Graduate Institute (IHEID, Geneva), on Generation Z.
  • Pierre Firode, member of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory on Economic and Political Change in Paris-Saclay (LIMEEP-PS) and the Médiations Laboratory (Sorbonne University), on Syria.
  • Cyrille Bret, specialist in defence and security issues, lecturer at Sciences Po, director of the website  www.eurasiaprospective.net, on Trump's diplomacy.
