Every year, the Normandy Region invites secondary school pupils to take part in the Normandy World Forum for Peace, a free international event dedicated to the major challenges of our time: peace, freedom, democracy, human rights and crisis resolution.
Over the course of a day, pupils meet leading figures from around the world, develop their critical thinking skills and test their ideas against those of experts, researchers, journalists, politicians and practitioners in the field.
An enriching experience
Taking part in the Forum enables secondary school pupils to gain a better understanding of the major challenges facing the modern world, and to develop their critical thinking and debating skills. It also gives them the opportunity to meet internationally renowned speakers and to learn about the work of NGOs and civil society organisations.
The youth programme links school curriculum topics – particularly those covered in HGGSP – to current issues, providing young people with insights and practical examples that are useful for their studies and civic engagement.
Preparatory materials, such as an educational booklet, are also provided to teachers in advance so that they can prepare for the topics to be covered during the Forum.

How can you take part?
Every year in September, the Normandy Region issues a call for applications to select Year 11 and Year 12 classes to take part in the next edition of the Forum, which takes place in the spring. Transport for the selected classes is fully covered by the Normandy Region.
Once your class has been selected, teachers can put together their pupils’ programme by choosing the talks, debates and workshops they will attend around one month before the event.
