Azadeh Kian is an Emeritus Distinguished Professor of sociology. She was Director of the Center for Gender and Feminist Studies and Research (CEDREF) and its journal Les Cahiers du CEDREF from 2007 to 2025, head of the Master program Gender and Social and Political Change (2007-2025), and former Director of the Social Science Department (2017-2021) at the Université Paris Cité. 

She received her MA and PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She has published 6 single authored books and edited 12 books and journal volumes. She is the author of over one hundred scientific articles in French and English, some of which have been translated into Arabic, Greek, Italian, Indonesian, Spanish, Portuguese, Persian.
