We are delighted to announce that Gisèle Pélicot has been honoured with the prestigious 2025 Freedom Prize. Her exceptional commitment and significant contribution to the defence of rights and freedoms have been recognised and celebrated by this award.
The Freedom Prize is awarded each year by young people aged 15 to 25 from around the world. It honours a person or organisation engaged in an exemplary fight for freedom. For this 7th edition, Gisèle Pélicot was chosen by more than 10,000 young people from 84 countries.
Gisèle Pélicot embodies the values of courage, determination, and resilience. The causes she fights for are numerous: she combats the trivialisation of rape and sexual violence, and advocates for the shame to change sides, so that victims can speak out without fear.
Thanks to her actions, many women have found the strength to denounce the violence they suffer and to claim their rights.
Among her concrete actions, Gisèle has:
- Testified publicly during the Mazan trial, exposing the violence she endured to raise public awareness
- Advocated for legislative reforms to strengthen the rights of victims of sexual violence
- Created awareness campaigns to educate and prevent sexual violence in schools and communities
"I think of the unrecognised victims whose stories often remain in the shadows." — Gisèle Pélicot
This award is a well-deserved recognition of her dedication and hard work for a fairer and more equitable world.
The 2024 Freedom Prize ceremony will take place on June 3rd at the Zénith de Caen.
Congratulations, Gisèle Pélicot!
