Tara Varma is Director of Strategic Foresight and Director of the Paris office of the German Marshall Fund.
Until December 2025, she was a visiting scholar at the Brookings Institution's Centre on the United States and Europe in Washington, DC.
Her research focuses on the foreign policy priorities of France and Europe. Her work focuses on European strategic autonomy, European defence and security priorities, and transatlantic relations.
Tara Varma is also interested in security in the Indo-Pacific region and the role that Europeans could play there.
Previously, she was a researcher and director of the Paris office of the ECFR (European Council on Foreign Relations), where she monitored French foreign policy and developments in the security situation in Europe and Asia.
