The Normandy Region has been involved since 2018 in various educational programmes aimed at promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and human rights among high school students and teachers in Normandy (Walk the Global Walk, ecHo). These programmes aim to encourage exchanges and the search for solutions to build lasting peace in the world.
To better address current challenges, particularly those related to climate change and gender inequalities, the previous ecHo programme has evolved into Ecoality.
Implemented since September 2024 with the International Institute for Human Rights and Peace, and in partnership with 10 European countries, Ecoality aims to raise awareness among young people about the SDGs and to mobilize them by making them agents of change.
Ecoality promotes meetings between young people from Normandy and local authorities to foster dialogue and reflection on joint action regarding the intersectionality of the fight against climate change (SDG 13) and gender inequalities (SDG 5).
All the partners from the 10 European countries supporting the Ecoality project (Austria, Croatia, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania).
Ecoality: A Response to Current Challenges
Ecoality positions itself as a pioneering program, emphasizing the intersectionality between gender inequalities and climate change, and aiming to mobilize young people to become agents of change.
The project spans three years, from December 2023 to December 2026.
Structured in three major stages, this program offers a progressive and engaging approach for young participants.
- Learn
Teams from the International Institute for Human Rights and Peace directly engage with young people to address the project's themes. These awareness sessions introduce the concept of intersectionality between gender inequalities and climate change. - Reflect
Young people participate in departmental meetings with local authorities and experts. The goal is to collectively think about concrete actions to be taken in the Normandy region. - Act
Back in their communities, whether associative or educational, young people disseminate the project ideas that emerged during the departmental meetings and attempt to bring them to fruition.
