As crises follow one after another and conflicts drag on, the very idea of peace seems to be receding. As a prelude to the 8th edition of the Normandy World Forum for Peace, which will focus on the theme ‘Hopes for Peace’, this reflection looks more specifically at three concrete examples: the mobilisation of Generation Z in many countries around the world, the return to diplomacy by force with the Trump administration’s numerous initiatives, and the situation in Syria, just over a year after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
Whilst these three dynamics may raise doubts as to their ability to serve as catalysts for building a lasting peace, they are also, in some respects, sources of hope. Through an analysis of these three examples, this webinar explores how it is possible today, without denying the realities of the emerging geopolitical context, not to give up hope and to continue believing in peace.
Webinar participants will have the opportunity to ask the speakers questions at the end of the webinar.
